I must admit he did funny things to my heart @purplerallim. The rescue took in 7 hedgehogs yesterday and is now closed again. The majority were mostly suffering with lungworm and/or ringworm and one was out in the day. 3 of them are not in a good way, sadly.
There does seem to be more small hogs around this year, at least in this area, but it does mean an increase in numbers if we can get them through the winter.
Haven't seen very small hogs around here. Last night they had a good time in the feeding station, the bowl was outside and on it's side with all the food gone.I checked it this morning at 5am and quickly put some more out and put it back inside the feeding station. Straight away a hog came.
We are now constantly having 3 hoglets and two adults most evenings. They are all eating well from the bowl of dried hog biscuits I put out, but am now thinking of using a dog/cat meat too, which I haven't done for a year or so. I want to fatten the little hogs up in case the winter is harsh here. I don't want to attract any vermin, so I always bring their food bowl in at around 11.30 although for the last couple of nights the young ones are still eating at that time. Which meat food would you recommend and I would still like to use the biscuits too.
@AnniD what a dear little hoglet Brad is, I hope he pulls through.
Having had the Spike dried food in the middle of the garden have had no vermin , even a cat had a look last night and left ( two hogs were eating at the time and took no notice 🤣) I would be worried that wet food might entice them though. Surely the hog food is enough nutrition along with what they pick up from the garden and bird table @Guernsey Donkey2.😁
Yes, I am sure you are right - the dried food has all the nutrients necessary for the hogs. I was just thinking of adding extras, I will have to start using 2 bowls as quiet often there are 3 hogs feeding at once and one invariably gets left out of the bowl.

I still can't understand why my little hogs walk through the water when its freezing cold out there.🥶

The dish in the box is a saucer, so it shows how small the hogs are.😁
