At last I was ready so here is one of the baby Hedgehogs out feeding in front of the patio windows tonight. Sorry it's a bit blurry but it's taken through the glass.

Any idea how old he/she is?

  • I agree AnniD, they do deserve some recognition for their care and earning the attention of the media too. The fact they have been involved since they were 9 years old speaks volumes for them and their parents.

Did anyone else see the programme on ch5? I felt the the way she handled the hoggies was so wrong 😢

I didn't know there was a programme on yesterday @timmy77. Was that a repeat of the Steve Backshall one ?
  • Yes, that certainly is heartening AnniD, let's hope they take heed and act out their intentions.

My neighbour has had two young hogs in distress in her garden recently, with fatal results.  Both hogs were in shade and there are water dishes in the garden.  Both hogs were lying on their sides and both were taken to the rescue centre where one was put to sleep as it also had maggots in it's ears and other problems. The neighbour thinks they may have been poisoned, I think they may have been dehydrated.  Whatever the reason for their weakness it is very distressing to find these suffering hogs. Any ideas @AnniD or @timmy?

    Morning @Guernsey Donkey2.
My initial instinct is that they weren't poisoned, although it is possible that they had eaten slugs that had been poisoned by slug pellets.
There are many reasons why the young hogs were suffering, l take it that this was during daylight hours, as you mention the shade. Sometimes mum disappears for various reasons, they come out in search of her and just can't cope. Timmy may well have a better idea.
Even though they were in shade, they shouldn't be out during the day. It's very sad to see them suffer, at least they were taken to the rescue and didn't suffer any more.
