Eucalyptus disease?

image

recently bought a couple of Eucalyptus trees. Repotted them in multi-purpose compost mixed with grit and put them in my conservatory to wait for spring... a few weeks later and they are covered in this green scale? Blister?  Mostly under the leaves. I think the leaves are most likely to drop off when touched.

Are they goners? Is there any chance of survival? Anyone have any ide what's wrong with them?

It may be damage caused by a gall wasp. If you open up one of the 'blisters' and find a tiny white grub then that is the problem. They may cause heavy leaf loss but shouldn't kill the tree. Collect up and destroy any fallen leaves to break the breeding cycle. You could try Bug Clear as your trees are still quite small but beware of useful foraging insects.

  • Thanks Ladybird4. The eucalyptus are less than 1ft tall and in pots and in my conservatory. Are gall wasps active in Feb in the U.K.? There's only some Aeonium and aloe Vera in there with them. The eucs didn't have this stuff on them when I got them. Even the branches are bumpy.

Should I take them back to the garden centre I bought them from?

Helcatt, I would definitely return them to the GC as they are not healthy and I'm sure you paid a fair bit for them.

And put the outside in the meantime!
