Rat Tailed Maggots - Help

I have just found an old plant pot full of stag water at the top of the garden. I started to pour the water away down the drain when I noticed some what I believe to be Rat tailed maggots (after some googling!)

How can I now dispose of this? Is it safe to pour the water away and then chuck the maggots/plant pot in the bin?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Pour it onto the lawn or other area. The birds will soon eat the rat tailed maggots.  Wash the plant pot out and its ok to use again.  Rat tailed maggots turn into hoverflies , a beneficial insect.

so if you have a pond put them in it.

I get so depressed about all the horror and fear of native wildlife
