Dwarf Weeping Cherry tree

Hi.  Not sure if this is right as am new to this site!

I have a small front garden which is mainly lawn and would like to add a small tree in the middle.

I like the look of the dwarf weeping cherry but am worried about the roots.

Would this be advisable or has anyone suggestions of other trees I could plant.

We did try an Acer but it is a bit open and the wind burnt the leaves and the tree didn't take.

many thanks

I've had Cheal's Weeping in two front gardens in the past and never had any problem regarding roots.

  • Hi Hollyhocks,

With dwarf cherry trees they graft onto a dwarfing rootstock so you shouldn't have a problem. I have a mature edible cherry on a dwarfing root and it is about 10 feet tall. The roots probably extend to about 6ft max and tend to keep low in the soil.

    Hope this helps.

  • That's great.  Thanks all for the help.  I will buy one this weekend!
