My gardening clothes are not only old and tatty - they are quite often OH's cast offs. Mainly because they're a bit big and baggy on me - so a lot more comfortable for bending & stretching. Definitely not a sight for sore eyesimage

I don't mind getting dirty and muddy. I always use old clothes.image

I love mud and mess - there is something quite liberating about scruffy clothes, no make-up and all the fresh air and muddy boots.

I was a bit overwhelmed at the amount of tidying, sorting and organising I need to do post-Winter but after a whole afternoon pulling up dead foliage, pruning branches and moving pots, I really feel like the gardening year has started.

My garden and I live in South Wales.
  • You've all made me feel so much better - thank you.   Spent a few hours in the garden yesterday feeling very demoralised. (Filthy jeans and hair with all sorts of twigs and seed heads sticking out of)  I was tripping over pots and a bag of compost or 2!  The lawn is just horrid - bald, yellowish, mossy and slimy in places.  Patio thick green  image  Dug out an old Hydrangea that was just sticks last year and didn't flower or put new growth on - such effort!  Feel as though I have no energy some days - mind is willing but body not!  The most satisfying part was collecting all the debris, filling the car boot and going to the tip!

I thought I was going to have trouble trying to dig out 3 gooseberry bushes, from the back garden to plant in the front. But it wasn't.image

The patio is now free of pots so I can actually walk to the garage!

I know the garden will all come together in the end but it just seems when I have the time the weather is bad and when the weather is fine I don't have the time!

On a brighter note 2 of 'my' hedgehogs returned to the garden last night so I feel spring is really on its way now. image

I hate getting dressed up for any reason so I'm happiest when I'm in the garden with tatty old jeans and big baggy jumper image When I was small I was always getting a row for being dirty..so now I enjoy being in the garden getting as mucky as I like and no  one to give me a telling off. If you come in clean when you've been gardening then you cant be doing it right. Even in the height of summer when everything is blooming and your garden looks awesome I still come in covered in dirt . That's the joy of working  with the soil ..it just makes you feel good ...and dirty!
