White mould on leather gloves

B3B3 Posts: 27,505

My leather gardening gloves have some sort of white mould on them that looks a bit like cement dust. It seems to disappear when I put the gloves on but there's a lot more of it than last year so I don't fancy putting them on.

Is there a way to get rid of the mould and is it harmful?

Sounds like they are damp. Dry them out slowly to prevent over-drying the leather and I expect it will brush off.

Thanks Dave. They have been in an extremely well-ventilated shed so I suppose they're dampimage

If it is anything like my shed, which I think has several species of fungi, as yet undiscovered by mycologists, then your shed will be damp.

My gloves (not that I wear them very often) are always like that so I don't keep them in the shed.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
