Dividing Iris reticulata and Crocus clumps

JamesOJamesO Posts: 230

Hi just after some advise of dividing Iris reticulate and crocus clumps.  After 3 years now the clumps are large with many flowers in a circle presume with all the side bulbs flower with the main bulb in there.  Do you divide this once flowering has finished dig them out and replant the off sets and then let the foliage die down and feed.  Many Thanks for any advise on this James Ollier

I think I'd do it as they're dying down, after they've finished building up the bulb for next year.

The reticulata irises tend to diminish each year anyway James, so it's often best to just discard them after they start flowering poorly. Usually two or three years is the best you get.

I've had mine in pots for three years and they're pretty haphazard at the moment, so I'll replace them with new ones or something else this autumn. I love them though  image
