I recently had a new patio and path laid with flagstones, where previously an old concrete path led to ugly eighties style yellow and red patio slabs. I did all the prep work myself i.e. cleared the concrete and patio slabs and laid hardcore before getting the professionals in. Honestly, looking at your site, I would strongly advise you NOT to buy a pick axe (unless you want to do your back in), but to rather hire in a heavy duty drill from your local HSS. £50 a day. It makes the job a piece of cake. The best thing to actually buy (although these can also be hired for around a tenner a day) would be a wheelbarrow to transport all the rubble to the skip. It's hard work, but not half as hard as it would be with a pick axe. Good luck!
So I have removed most of the hardcore - phew! There remains an amount of sand that was laid underneath the pavers. Am I ok to dig this into the soil? It seems to mix well and still look soil-like rather that sand. My concern is that my lawn will grow differently where the more sandy soil lies and will look silly. Is this likely?
Thank you again to each and everyone of you. I am loving being out in the garden, turning the concrete and stone jungle into something much more satisfying and appealing
