Brian - the rain was about 12 hours later when I did the whole patio. I think for the initial treatment I hosed it only half an hour later.
Obelixx - in that case you might want to double check before using the Kingfisher product as I suspect it's bleach-based (corrosive... contains chlorides), together with some other nasties. If you use a 10% solution of bleach is unlikely to do any harm to pets, especially if you rinse the area before they walk on it. I expect a 10% bleach wash followed by a water rinse 5 mins later would sort out most of your algae problem - worth a try before moving on to harsher, more expensive stuff. Just make sure you don't buy the gloopy thick bleach, and don't use it neat.
