Lining pond pots.

I will be re-potting my pond plants soon and want to line the mesh pots.Last year I experimented using just pebbles in the mesh pots and no soil but the results were not very promising.A filter is supposed to help with this type of planting but I don't have one.I have used hessian in the pots in the past but this does not keep the soil in very well and rots easily.I have seen special fabric liners for pots and wondered if this is the same fabric as the weed control stuff? (I have loads of this!).

Actually you have just given me an idea about a question I asked a little while ago!

If I used the windbreak material (I am assuming you mean the green mesh type) I could make a 'cushion' of this (made to shape) and fill it with gravel or pebbles to sit on the pond shelf to raise the pots.
Will get my thinking cap on to see if it is feasible!!
Weed control fabric will certainly work for lining the baskets. Just make sure there's enough to be able to wrap it around the neck of the plants, and to cover it with gravel or pebbles to stop the fish digging into it for goodies.
Madpenguin - it's a brilliant idea for raising the baskets on pond shelves. The cushion can be made to exactly the height required.
Ooo i think ill try that philippa. i have lots of wind fabric and some pond plants. Apart from the sewing bit (im lazy) it sounds ideal.
