Where to start
in Fruit & veg
I have no greenhouse but am planning to propagate at home, not sure where the best spot would be, i have a largish conservatory which i hardly use (south facing) however it's freezing in there, i also have a warm spare room, not sure if i should use the conservatory and buy some kind of heater or turn my spare room into a nursery ? how messy does it get ? also does everyone use fluorescent lights ? am also unsure how many seeds to sow and when to plant them out,i have just taken on half a plot and at the mo it's still covered in the green fertilizer i planted in Nov, any help would be great, thank you

What are you planning to sow, veg or flowers? Broad beans and sweet peas and hardy annuals would be OK in the conservatory. Half hardy annuals e.g. Petunias, need warmth. Is there enough light in the spare room, a decent window sill, but not in full sun? I don't start sowing until March.
Thank you, I'm planting brassicas , baby corn, spring onions ,French beans, salad and spinach, ?
The difficulty is that you need a cool, bright place for seeds. Your conservatory may become baking hot when the sun shines and freezing cold at night. The spare room may be too warm and dark. I would be inclined to wait a few weeks, yet, then start your seeds in the warm room and move them as soon as they germinate, to the conservatory, provided you can control the heat. Go for fairly tough, undemanding varieties for now, not fussy half-hardies.
bumblelife, I've replied to your PM.
Thanks, my spare room has pretty good light as faces south and at least I can keep the temp constant I suppose , at the moment it's trial and error ?
