Sweet peas
in Plants
Hello! I'm growing an abundance of sweet peas in my greenhouse which are doing well. I'm hoping to grow them using the cordon method. Not that I'm a professional, far from it. I thought I would give it a go. Can anyone give me advice as when to put them out and do I need to put any fertiliser in the soil when they go in? I love sweet peas and really hope I succeed in producing an array of colours and scents .

I'd leave them until may then harden them off by slowly getting them used to being outside. When there's 4 leaves pinch the top out and they will bush out and you'll get more Flowers. Feed them with a high potash feed when they start to flower.
It's a good idea to dig a trench and put in a layer of good quality composted muck, Lisa. Planting out depends on the weather. I like to get mine out in March to free up space but I have often regretted my haste when a spell of miserable weather has knocked them back .Although they are pretty tough, they will perform better if they go out when the weather is becoming milder and snow and frost are done for the year.
