    Are there any more clues?

Is it definitely one or the other?

ash has a pinnate leaf but it could be a leaflet.

then again it could be a prunus

    or something else altogether

In short, I haven't got a clue, I can't even see the pattern of the leaf veins or guess at the size

  • As nut says, tricky!  I've just nipped down the garden (how's that for dedication?!) and collected an ash leaflet from beneath an ash tree and would say, If it's definitely one of the two, it's ash:

  • Second that I'm very impressed

    thanks Bob ??

  • photo of the existing stem might be useful as ash can be identified from its buds
