Need a Quick Growing Screening hedge

Hi, unfortunately a large warehouse has applied for planning permission next door :(

I need a quick growing tree hide the view. I estimate the warehouse will be 12 - 15m in height.

The area it will be built next to is a woodland however in winter the warehouse would be very visible as its only a couple trees deep in parts.

I was thinking of black poplar trees?  I know its not evergreen but it grows very quick and stays narrow?

Are there any other trees you would suggest?

Any chance of a photo digit? That helps for ideas.

As pansyface suggests - planting soemthing smaller but closer to your house is the best solution if that's possible. It can make a garden more interesting when it's divided up anyway, so that may be the best way forward.

A huge hedge can be imposing and draw attention to the very area you want distracted from. If you had another focus elsewhere, that often works better. A specimen tree on the other side, feature bed  with a statue,  a small pond etc. etc

Those two ideas combined might do the trick. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Black poplar is not narrow, it quickly broadens with age. I'd go for prunus cerasifera 'Nigra' which has fine twiggy growth and it makes a good screen despite being deciduous. Pretty in flower (early) and with a lovely rich purple leaf.  As suggested, something shorter and a bit closer would work - pittosporums, photinia, portugal laurel, if you want to go for non-native, hollies and yew for native.

  • The warehouse would be around 25m from woodland, but it is more the scale of the warehouse its approx 7 acres and on an incline.
