Coco Coir compost blocks

I know that water gets added to them to make useable compost but just wondering if anyone has had any success with them

  • they're good for bulking up potting compost, but pretty useless on their own for seed sowing and potting as its too well draining.

I used a spare one to mulch some shrubs in my garden and they seemed ok with it.

I've used the jiffy coir pellet pots and all the seeds germinated and developed a good root system. I've not used the blocks of coir but have wondered about trying some to mix with MPC for seedling. I will be interested in the replies you get treehugger.

I soaked them in warm water, and in only a few minutes they were fully soaked and plumped up, I then just poked a hole with a pencil on top and in went the seed, or just placed seed on top. I have used other coir pellets which weren't as good as the jiffy ones.
