To thin or not to thin...
last year I bought my first echinacea as small plugs and brought them on and planted them out at the end of the summer. They did well. It's all about getting a strong root system i understand From verdun ( I think it was him advising me).
I have lots of forget me nots in the garden and where the echinacea are planted is now full of them. Should I be thinning out the forget me nots so they don't smother the echinacea or will they push through in the spring.
I do love forget me nots as a space filler so like having some there but the echinacea are a bit of a labour of love so don't want to kill them off.

Remove forget me nots that are within a foot of the echinacea plant. One forget me not every two feet is adequate. More than that will hide slugs that will decimate the shoots of echinacea as they come through.

I agree, that's why they're called forget me nots.
