Topsoil, compost, etc
Hi everyone.
Just out of curiosity (/research!), I was wondering where you acquire your planting medium such as compost, soil, etc.
Do many of you order online at all? or do you get your products more locally?
Do you tend to prefer certain well-known brands, or are you open to more non-branded/lesser well-known products?
Thank you.

I buy whichever is on special offer locally.
I have no transport so all bought online. I stick to stuff available from Wickes (own brand MPC plus various Westland products.) 30-60 bags at a time to make the most of the delivery charges.
I don't have transport but I can get compost and stuff delivered by the milkman!
Hubby gets it local, now that he's an oap, he gets 10 percent discount,I find Westland MPC is the best for what I want.
Great. Thanks for the info all...
So, I'm guessing the first port of call for the majority is the likes of B&Q/Wickes. And also the Westland/John Innes brands are popular also.
Do you prefer the smaller bags (for ease of handling, I guess) as opposed to the large builders-type bulk bags, or would you consider the large bags which work out cheaper but are obviously less mobile?
Do you research such products before buying i.e. Online/magazines/etc... I'm just trying to get a bit of insight as to where gardening enthusiasts tend to go For their products. If you could order products online, and get them delivered to your door (on a pallet), would you? - assuming the prices are comparable with the likes of B&Q's.
Thank you.
I go for the big bags cheeper, I use a lot.If we buy 2 get the 3rd free. Hubby always does the heavy lifting, I can't, I've got a bad back.
My best buy ( sorry for those who've heard it already ) was 46 bags of miracle gro compost reduced from £5.99 to 50p a bag. £23 rather than £275.54
50l bags. It was the "fruit and veg" compost and they were clearing them at the end of summer. I've still got about 12 bags in the polytunnel.
aym, I was lucky. The girl on the checkout told me about it, so I bought the lot. I have to say the van was doing 12mph going up the hill on the way home.
Dont buy much compost, never use it on the garden, but do start off some of the veg in pots using JI number 2, ie runner and broad beans peas and onions, get a bag of peat substitute for plants in baskets, JI number two for other pot plants mixed with garden compost and garden soil, over many years has worked well,
