It's not a marketing survey - the linked article and the preamble to the survey itself explained this very clearly. It's funded by the RHS and conducted by named researchers at the University of Sheffield - I'm not sure what you think I 'fell for', but as the researchers have full names and contact details in the preamble, perhaps you could contact them and discuss your reservations?
Well, even universities have marketing departments nowadays - they function like commercial enterprises now, more's the pity .......... but I do think that in this case Mike is being overly cynical - as has been said he probably didn't read the link in detail - he was posting in the very wee small hours
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
As does the RHS, of course - but should all research stop because organisations have marketing departments? Of course not. It's very important to check provenance before completing any survey, especially if you are asked for contact details etc, so you are sure you are comfortable with what you're doing. But I think the researchers have done all they can to be transparent and accountable here - it seems odd to imply that people are being mugs in this particular instance. Ho hum - think you're right about the late night posting.

Done.
Did you read the BBC article linked in the original post Hortico?
I felt it clearly explained what the survey results would be used for.

Here's some more info on the RHS website: https://www.rhs.org.uk/science/gardening-in-a-changing-world/greening-grey-britain/front-garden-research

Would love to see the conclusions of this research.

Whether marketing or research or both, I was quite happy to complete this survey as I felt many aspects were directly applicable to me
