Fruit in pots

I have a number of fruit trees in pots in a sheltered warm area of the garden against a concrete wall. Last year I painted the wall white in hope to help with ripening fruit. Have I done the right thing the trees went to look very sickly and in case of cherries lost all fruit. Would it have been better if wall was repainted in a less stark colour

  • Trees are on dwarf rootstocks and are in 18inch pots. I have a watering system giving good all day watering plus a further half gallon daily They have a good season long fertiliser plus further fertiliser added at half strength through the growing season
