Confer browning

some browning started last year and i have lost a few chunks.

i have 2 side by side and the other seems to be ok, albeit yellowing a little, maybe due to winter weather.

any tips or help?

im wondering if it has just become root bound and needs some trimming of roots?

I should think it's very hungry - how long has it been in that pot? when was it last fed?

I don't think that pot is big enough.

  • a couple of years now in these pots

general basic feed last year but nothing special.  im thinking of maybe a root prune.  didnt really want to pot up and want to keep them this size

maybe take them out as spring arrives, trim up roots and remove soil and then repot back and then trim the bush back

    ?

Not sure how root trimming will help unless you also reduce the size of the top growth?

It looks as if the roots are already struggling to support the plant.

  • they are the biggest i want them so i either move to garden and replace

or attempt to trim up the roots a little bit and resoil and then trim the top/sides for there normal maintenance then let them have minor growth through the year

else go one pot size up

ill wait till more spring and assess when take out of the pot then do as above and fertilise etc
