Strange growth coming out of Bamboo
Have a few bamboo plants growing out of pots. Noticed some strange growth coming out from several of them that I've never seen before. Anyone know what they are? Parasitic plant?

I don't grow bamboo so my knowledge is limited, but it looks to me as if it's flowering.

Doves right that looks like flowers but that might not be good, most bamboo's die once they've flowered.
Looks like it is a flower, as treehugger states not good news I think I would take that cane right off to the bottom and see if it's stops the process.
I had 2 bamboos (of the same type) and they both flowered in the same year and then died. I read somewhere that many are clones from a single plant and all tend to flower at the same time.
I saved and planted seed from mine. It grew easily and I now have a full grown successor to the original ones, which actually cost me nothing as someone had thrown them on a rubbish heap!
It's bamboo palm, chamaedorea species. Flower's fine, I'm sure.
