What is this and how do I look after it!

Hi,

I have moved into a new house and we have a large (Well I think it is) palm tree in the front.

I have no clue as to what it is and no idea how to look after it.

Should I prune it / trim it or just leave it? Do these things have large root complexes where they might cause problems with the house? It is only maybe 2M from the front wall.

Thanks in advance for any responses :-)imageimage

Very like the ubiquitous Trachycarpus fortunei, Chusan palm, one of the hardy palms. I think you do nothing but remove dead leaves, but let others more acquainted with it advise you.

  • Cheers for that.

So do I need to do anything regarding the roots and the proximity to the house? Also should I be pruning this thing or just taking the dead bits off as and when?

There shouldn't be a problem with the roots - they have shallow non- invasive roots.

Also no need for pruning - just remove any brown leaves.
