Odd lilac growth
Hi there, I have a lilac that I am going to prune and noticed weird growth on some of the new wood. Here is a picture of what I'm looking at. Can someone help tell me why or what is causing this kids me of growth? I am in Alberta north of Calgary.
There was another part that I just couldn't get a good picture of that was flat, about 1-1/2" wide, and had about 10 buds right on the top of it

Its fasciated. It is usually caused by damage to the growing tip at some point. Have a look here.
