MaisieM: Whoops! But then, what would I, a Sassenach, know about the spelling of the Gaelic!! Maybe I'll take a couple of lessons on Saturday night when we attend a Burns Night in Newark...
And Hostafan, you would not be in the Gambia today, seeing as they brought everyone home yesterday.
we were among those who came home yesterday ( 2 weeks early ) Some are not coming back until tomorrow. I read on BBC that "hundreds were left in the airport overnight"
Thanks Bright Star. To be honest, it was pretty calm. I think folk were realistic about the advice from Foreign Office ,and , for a tiny airport , it was handled as well as they could have done.
We are right down south but are experiencing lovely sunny days, but cold too.
We had a low of 8 degrees today, cloudless sky and full sunshine, quite hot in the sun, but the wind is northerly and cold. Chance of another ground frost today as the sky is so clear, with sparkling stars.

I'd like some snow. I grew up on the Continent and I love it. (Not skiing, though, I hate skiing, it's way too much effort!)
I just hope that all the slugs will freeze to death now that we finally have a bit of a frost.

On balance , we were lucky to get out.
Hard luck hosta, it must have been a traumatic experience, having to leave so suddenly and the prospect of violence erupting at anytime ?

I've seen snow here on the 23rd May. It's far too mild: I don't like it. We need a good frost to kill the bugs off!
I'm driving even northerer tomorrow so am glad it's mild. Not very north though, only Edinburgh.
Sorry to hear about your holiday, Hostafan...hope you can get refunded

The last 8 weeks have been the coldest first half of winter I can recall for many a year.
In decades of gardening I cannot remember having to protect against hard frosts on so many nights.
