Holly leaves

Can someone tell me if the holly leaf is a modified pine needle or has holly bushes no link to the pine tree family

    The two are separated very early on in the plant kingdom

    Pines are gymnosperms, hollies are angiosperms

    Holly is in the Angiosperm group (flowering plants) but pines are in a completely different  group called Gymnosperms (conifers, cycads and related) so there is no link.
