Blue Atlas Cedar Tree
Hello,
im after some advice on replacing a very large Blue Atlas Cedar tree planted in my front garden. At the moment its over shadowing our house. Although its a lovely looking tree, its just grown too large.
We are looking for a medium sized evergreen tree, that would be a good substitute. Does anyone have any suggestion.
Thank you in advance.

How far from the house will it be planted ?
Currently its about 12 feet away from the house, but im hoping to replant a replacement 17 feet away
Sunny spot? Good drainage? Big pittosporum tenuifolium (Abbotsbury Gold or Garnettii), or perhaps hoheria sexstylosa. Hoheria is a very pretty, airy tree, with white flowers in June. If the ground's chalky or acidic and it's a shadier site, then what about one of the variegated hollies, ilex 'Golden King' or 'Argentea Marginata' - both female, so you'd get berry, hopefully.

any of the crab apples, rowans, birches, small maples would all do fine and give good colour at various times of the year.
