I'm a fan of Sorbus x intermedia; very tidy habit, neat glossy leaves and nice berries which attract thrushes. It looks a bit different to Rowan but more handsome IMHO.

  • Very very sadly lost our Sorbus Joseph Rock to fireblight .

Near by  Sorbus sargentiana was perfect.
    Fab autumn colour, sticky
    buds.
    Perthshire. SCOTLAND .
  • I garden in Cambridge with Alkaline soil.  Would Rowan be a good tree for our smallish back garden?  I've heard it has an unpleasant smell in spring...a bit like semen.  Is this true?
