How big is the sycamore? They can be far too big for most gardens - they also cast a lot of shade and suck up all the moisture, not to mention the black sooty mildew they drip down onto the area below ...
I would get rid of it and replace it with a more suitable tree ......... but if you've decided to keep it then you need plants that can cope with dry shade - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=430
