I like my Rhodies and Azaleas more each year. When I moved and inherited several specimens I initially thought they were a bit garish but now I look forward to the pink zing in April to June. Once those blooms have faded, the garden gives way to more subtle colours, although last year I made an orange section which looks delicious late summer.
Perki - I have a Geum 'Tequila Sunrise' - so many must be named after cocktails! (Too rainy to nip out to take a pic just now!)
Love the clematis Yviestevie - I am fairly new to clematis, but your Omoshira looks healthy and interesting. How old is it?
I have a few geums AuntyRach Cooky, Tequila Sunrise, Lady Stratheden and Mrs. Bradshaw come to mind, but I do have others too. Oh yes Rivale or Avens I think another is called.
GD, Omoshira was planted exactly a year ago. Clematis Westerplatte is planted with it. I love Geums too. I have Lady Stratheden, Cosmopolitan, Borisii and Fireball. Don't think they there is a purple variety they tend to be shades of yellow, orange and red. A few have a tinge of pink about them.
Only a year ago - it looks well established - obviously in the ideal situation there.
I don't know of any purple geums either, but I did notice a few new varieties (to me) at the GC last weekend. As I have overspent on pond and bog plants already, I had to resist and hurriedly walked past the Geum area.
Geum rivale, water avens, has a purplish look to it, because the sepals are purple and the hanging flowers wear them like a hat. (If you see what I mean...) The petals are a sort of peachy colour. I love it! The brash cultivars in hot colours are great in their place, but in my damp shady patch the native geum thrives.
It's amazing how the garden perks up with the smallest amount of rain. I agree, Fairy, Yvie's hosta looks wonderful. The mecanopsis I put on this thread a day or two ago is looking much more at home now it's got raindrops on the petals.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

A fantastic selection there Yviestevie.
I don't have a brilliant track record on Clematis (one word: slugs!) but my Miss Bateman has at least flowered this year.
Geums are fantastic plants - I can see mevbuying more - I fancy a purple-y one - know you of any??

No - red/orange/yellow spectrum only for Geums. A plummy purple would be good - I'd certainly buy one!
Lovely pix everyone - I especially like the raindrop spattered hosta, Yvie
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
