Olive Tree – black blobs and sooty deposits

Hi there,

One of my olive trees has acquired small, round blobs on its branches and at the same time black sooty deposits on its leaves. Any ideas what's wrong with it and what I can do to resolve the problem?

    They're scale insects and the sooty deposits are bacteria growing on their waste.
    If you have a stiff brush, just brush them off.

    I don't know if a Winter Tree Wash is suitable for an Olive, but it may be worth researching.
    They don't usually damage the tree, but they don't look too pretty!

    Thanks very much, Pete! I'll take a look into the winter tree wash and see if it's suitable.
