Horse chestnut trees
i have four horse chestnut trees and a couple have a problem, at the middle of most of the branches the limbs swell and get very large and then go thin again. In high winds they snap. Is this some sort of disease

Strange. Is there any sign of weeping from the bark?
Some, but we have prolific leaf minor
My horse chestnuts have leaf miners but haven't really suffered, it affects their leaves in late summer. Weeping from the trunk or branches is more serious. This is bleeding canker caused by bacteria, not the moth.

Thank you Tetley, but I realise what you mean. It's such a shame, such beautiful trees and the leaf miner really spoils the look of them. There is a lot of it here.
What should I do. They are becoming dangerous and close to the house. They have TPOs on them so I can't even trim
