Compost question- and don't laugh!

Hi all

I have made some compost and was wondering when is the best time to use it when putting on boarders ? And is this the best use?

I know I can mix it with mpc when planting out pots in spring to give them a good start.

thanks

  • I would suggest now for spreading compost on boarders, as this will give it time to break down and work into the soil ready for most plants starting their growth in the Spring.

We have just spread our homemade compost onto freshly dug veg. patch soil, so the wind, rain, and worms will help to take the compost down into the soil, enriching the soil and giving better drainage over the growing season of Spring and Summer. Hope that makes sense Tray14.

You can add it any time Tray, if the ground's favourable. The only time I avoid it is in a heavy frost. image

Gosh, I'd always thought they did funny things at boarding school, but I didn't realise they got covered in compost. image
