Treated hyacinth bulbs outside now

Do the treated hyacinth bulbs for indoor flowering still bloom if you move the pots outside now?

There seems to be flies coming out of the compost, I am not sure why as this isn't happening with any of my other houseplants. So I am thinking of moving the hyacinth pots outside but will they still flower? They're just beginning to at the moment. Temperature where I am is around 4-5 C at the moment.

if your weather is like ours I think the shock will be too much for the flowers though the bulbs should survive unless it gets even colder with all day frosts and the pot, bulb and compost freeze solid

Thanks. I had to move the outside. Still surviving but let's see what happens.

Wakeshine, yes it's the compost. I used to get flies when I did indoor hyacinths. You could get an insecticide and put it in the compost.

Thanks Logan. Is it just something that happens with hyacinths and if so does anyone know why? Anyway they are still outside and didn't grow very big, probably due to the cold. I wish I'd been able to grow them inside because I'd heard they have a nice fragrance.

That's a shame wake shine. There are still some for sale in garden centres for the indoors. The smell is one of my absolute favourites, it just smells of pure freshness and Spring!

Take the whole pot outside. Get one of the household fly sprays that you use in summer for bluebottles. Give the whole potful a good squirt. Ventilate for ten minutes, then bring it back in to the house. Voila.
