Suitable type of radio for shed/greenhouse?

I got my first greenhouse/potting shed this year and would like to have a radio (possibly with CD player) permanently there to accompany my relaxed pottering. I'd welcome views on the best kind to get for it - does it have to be waterproof/"builders" type, or will any kind be OK? I do have mains power.

I have one of those little wind-up radios in  my greenhouse. It has been through hell, and high water, actually, but it still works.

keep it on a carrier bag which you can tie up to keep out dust and moisture? Just a thought.

  • My wife has a battery radio in her gardening tools trug that follows her around the garden ... well, its often a long way away from where she winds up!  She's happy listening to Radio 4 or Classic FM, but obviously that works for whatever radio station takes your fancy.

I've graduated from Radio to Podcasts. Some good ones one gardening, but a range of topics that I find more interesting than just listening to whatever Steam Radio is delivering ... might just be me getting old though.

I have a really good pair of noise-cancelling (Bluetooth) headphones, sorry but they were shockingly expensive, which work extremely well when I am in a noisy environment - like on the ride on mower (really good on a plane too ...) and, of course, unlike an abandoned radio they follow me around. I also have a battery Bluetooth speaker. Both attach wirelessly to my phone, which automatically downloads all the podcasts from channels that I am interested in, so always something already retrieved to listen too when I'm "doing stuff" in the garden - and in the car too.

Thanks for all your responses and suggestions.

Clearly CDs and greenhouses don't mix so I quickly dropped that idea! In the end I've gone for a simple DAB radio with rubber casing (John Lewis) And I think I'll take the advice of Buttercupdays and generally keep it handy near the back door to take out with me as needed.

kGarden I hadn't thought about the benefits of wireless listening - obvious when you think about it, for moving around the garden - will definitely consider Bluetooth if there's a next time.

Doghouse Riley I looked up your Jukebox link - you seriously have one of those? that's quite something!

    All best wishes
