  • Chicken manure is as good a compost activator as anything I know And a compost heap with plenty of that in it shouldn't need any help.

If you feel the need to add anything else 'recycled beer or cider' image  in a bucket and diluted with some water and poured over the heap will also help. As you're in France 'recycled wine' will also work. Apparently it's most effective if recycled via the male of the species, but female will so if thats what is available.

some green leafy stuff would be a good addition to the mix you have.

I make tons, even tens of tons, of compost every year and I've never used Garotta , or anything similar in my life. Get the balance right and it'll be fine.

  • I've never bought any either Hosta. image

I didn't know you could buy accelerator.

Spend your money on a second compost bin perhaps?

I find that the best accelerator is turning the heap as often as you can. I believe Monty uses heavy machinery to do his and perhaps Hosta does, too, but neither my heap nor my pocket is deep enough for anything more than a muck fork.

We have two pallette sized compost heaps, where the compost is turned every few months up to the autumn when it is spread where needed on hte garden.

Move the junk, well worth the effort.

I would get the neighbour to remove the metal framed bed, why chuck it into your garden anyway, keep his own junk.
