You ladies (Nut & Dove etc) certainly sound as if you know your onions, & your respective bays, laurels & poison plants!! I've two big 4m 'lollipops' in my garden & lots of youngsters in their own pots of various sizes, from 30cms up to 4ft [note bilinguality here in "Little England beyond Wales" esp Southern Pembs part of W Wales]. Offers anyone [swaps preferred - cash is sooo uncool, doncha think?].
Agree re swaps. Done a lot of swaps through this forum over the years, including some bay. Can't remember who had the bays so can't check re success. They were suckers with a bit of proper root.
Hi, Nutcutlet: my 'bay babies' are kosher independent plants - well matured by standing out in all weathers in my sheltered coastal setting in S Pembs. The bigger ones are just a 'tad' heavy for posting, so an agreed exchange & collection is the best way forward, I feel. Now the quick frosts have done for the nasturtium 'jungle' that engulfed them in the Autumn, I'll get a list together for the SWAPS thread for sure!!
Nutcutlet: Here's picture you may appreciate - rather better looking than the soggy messy remains of the nasturtiums!! *I scrumped various foliages from my garden this afternoon (in the gloaming after I'd finished my indoor domestickic chores) - the trimmings & gleanings will contribute to "decking the halls" by increments over the next few days [pics to follow...]. Once dried off by hanging in the garage & empty greenhouse, I'll work them into wreaths & garlands for our own home & a few close neighbours.
Ornithogalum, Californian Bay aka Californian laurel is occasionally grown in the Uk. It is a close relative of the Bay, resembling it in many waysand can be used in cooking but it is distinctly more pungent.

I like the sound of a nasturtium jungle.

very nice. I'd better think about decking the halls, but not much, just a token.
