Hedge has brown patch!
Dear All,
this beautiful hedge has mysteriously developed a brown patch, the hedge is in the front garden in an isolated bed and the brown patch is facing the building.
there is a hedge surrounding it on the other side of a narrow path that has no symptoms.
it looks like wilt, I have checked for honey fungus but cannot find a trace.
what could it be and how can i cure it?
thanks in advance

Hi Danny from your photo it looks like fire blight to me which I believe is an airborn disease.
It attacked my cotoneaster hedge a few years back. I was told there was no cure but to cut out
the affected branches to stop it spreading.
If I were you to start with I would strip all the dead leaves and see if it recovers next year.
If you cut the branches it may ruin the look of the bush.
As far as I know there is no chemical cure.
Many thanks John,
that is very helpful thanks again
that looks like a privet to me, at least the 2nd photo does. If it is it won't get fireblight which only affects some of the Rosaceae family.
I'd have a look and see if it's all one branch off the main stem and if that branch has been damaged in some way.
You can see from pic 3 that there is a certain amount of dead stuff and the sooner you remove that, the sooner the rest will fill in the gap. Take it well back to live growth to remove any source of infection if there is one.
Tight clipping is quite hard on a plant, all the new fresh growth gets chopped off and it's left with the old bits
In the sticks near Peterborough
Thanks Nutcutlet, i will sefinayley consider that
many thanks again
