I hope that netting on fat balls will be totally phased out too Busy-Lizzie.
And anything with a gradual narrowing like a spiral, can also trap birds.
I won't post an image, but check the RSPB for information.

I just found the type you describe Lizzie27  (Kingfisher brand). Sorry if it is considered advertising. Very neat.  Can't find a short link.
Understand about clean fingers, changing anything like that is a messy job. Not sure about clean windows though :D

I bought a tub of fat balls online [much more thrifty] but  you can generally get them netfree now, especially if you buy in bulk.

Is it this one, Ruby and Lizzie?

I bought my fat balls from Garden Wildlife Direct - premium suet balls x 50, if nayone wnats to take a look. The birds love them  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

That is the one I saw Fairy . You star. :)

I like thrifty too ;) Just wish everyone and manufacturers would be aware / do away with the nets.

Fairygirl, thanks for that link. Nearly the same like mine, must be a different producer but the same principle. I hate touching the fatballs or fatcakes with bare hands. Hadn't thought about the windows though!
