If the owners of the cafe did ban anybody from entering who was carrying or wearing anything which originated from animals I would have some respect for them. I very much doubt they do, so it seems to be more a case of getting publicity than actually occupying the moral high ground.
As said above almost all banknotes have traces of cocaine and I would also bet they also have traces derived from animals and goodness knows what else.

Are we to believe that all vegetarians are so precious that they cannot even touch something derived from an animal, no matter how insignificant the actual animal "contaminant" is?
Sorry - I just don't buy into this non story. If it was a matter of eating a product - that would be an entirely different matter. But one doesn't eat a £5 note, plastic or otherwise. (normally)
If such sensitivity must be taken into account on behalf of what is probably a "ready-to-be-offended" minority, then we must all of us stop wearing wool (in case we accidently brush up against someone) or leather (in case we accidently kick their shins or brush a handbag against bare flesh) perfume (which odour may offend because of its constituent chemicals) or using any other product which may contaminate just such a person,
Nope, Not going to go there. I appreciate and respect others' beliefs, religious or not. I will not seek to offend them or put them in distress. I expect the same courtesy in response, which means they we should all get a life and keep a sensible perspective.
If Mark Carney at the Bank of England (aka George Clooney in our household) is reading this thread and wants a supply of Stearic acid to make his bank notes ..... I could let him have a cheap supply of beeswax.
We've got loads of the stuff and there's only so many candles you can usefully use.
Send me a pm Mark if you are interested.

I have to say my patience was somewhat stretched at 3pm on a Christmas eve, when a vegetarian presented a prescription for Amoxicillin capsules, then demanded a vegetarian version. Capsules , no they contain gelatine. Tablets, no they contain lactose. Could I contact the manufacturers to see what version of this animal tested antibiotic she could have.....
As all the manufacturers shut down around midday on Christmas Eve, and dont' reopen until New Year, I asked her if she wanted to get better.
I suggested tipping the powder out of the capsules..... she was horrified. Apparently this is like telling her to take the pepperoni off of a pizza.
I have also seen patients decline treatments for religious or personal beliefs fidgetbones - informed choice/consent then refusal I can understand but asking for alternatives is pushing the boundaries somewhat!
I am fully expecting other day-to-day items will be 'outed' as non-veggie soon... maybe cars, toilet roll or air ?!?

I think that the cocaine story is an urban myth, started by my "favourite" newspaper.
It all seems so simple, there is no need to offend people, if you just think.
Make them with something else.
It may well annoy you Pete, but some people have strongly held beliefs, which is ok by me.

Strongly held beliefs are everyone's entitlement.
