I planted a load of tulips and alliums today. I still have a load of tulips to plant, but I won't worry so long as I get them in before the end of December. Tulips can be planted later than others.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Loana, I think the reason for planting tulips late is so that frosts can reduce any harmful diseases in the ground. I would imagine that planting in pots would mean that wasn't so relevant, but I hope if I'm wrong about that someone will correct me!

'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
Still agonising over my alliums, however. I grew some in pots this year and they were fine, but they were cheap and small and much as I enjoyed them I wasn't really invested in them. Having now spent some money on bigger, special ones, I want to get it 'right'.
I think I've decided on the pots for the Purple Sensations, but can't decide what to do with the Purple Rain. They have big heads and I want them to grow straight, so can't crowd them. I was wondering about putting each one in an individual plastic pot (I only have 5 bulbs of these) and then dotting them round the garden (maybe removing from pots, maybe not) when in flower?
And I just can't see the nectaroscordums in pots at all. Hmmm - I think my indecision is in direct proportion to my love of the plants! Nectaroscordums are one if my favourites ever and I haven't had any for years and years.

Grrr. Have woken to the sight of five pots of bulbs utterly trashed by squirrels / foxes. Blighters. The gravel deterred them for 3 weeks and lulled me into a false sense of security. If there are any bulbs left to replant, chicken wire it is.

I found some bulbs, I hope I put them back in the right pots - time will tell! I don't think I have lost too many. Even the plastic labels were well and truly chewed. Didn't have time to cut individual pieces of chicken wire for each pot, but I will. For the moment all but a single trough of daffodils and crosuses are in a line under a big roll of weighed down chicken wire. Grrr.

It sounds like i was rather too organised and put my tulips in pots when they first became available in the GC, hope they will be ok?

I'm having a lovely bulb planting morning!

Oh, what a shame. I hope you find the bulbs to replant. What did you decide to do with the Nectaroscordums?
