when to cut down phacelia green manure
Afternoon everyone
I have a patch of Phacelia green manure growing in 1 of my allotment beds now.
I live in brighton so its doing ok at the moment.
Should I leave it as it is or cut it down and dig it in.
How long does it take to rot down?, its been in since July so his fairly well developed and has flowered
Im planning to cover it with a permeable membrane once ive cut it down to let the worms do their work.
Any advice gratefully received
thanks in advance

I would have dug it in before flowering - now that it's flowered you are likely to have a lot of self-sown seedlings appear all over the bed in the spring.
I have found that phacelia is best just grown for a few weeks in the summer. Then before it flowers, you cut it down and use the top growth in the compost heap and dig the roots in.
Alternatively you can sow in September and it should over-winter without flowering, then dig it in in the spring before it flowers.
