Help me save my almost 20 year old robinia
half the tree blew down the street only to expose that our tree was still suffering after 5 years ago a guy that picked up a skip took out some of my trunk and had no ideas how much trouble it would cause ti my poor tree I gave it to him whole he looked at me like I was a crazy lady telling me it's just a tree we had some pest that was eating it like a a white worm I think by memory and we were spraying the tree every fortnight for about a year and thought we had it under control every now and again we would get some dead branches but the rest of the tree looked healthy there would be dead twigs but I'd had an injury and couldn't give it the time it deserved I went to local nursery with some pictures they said I can't save it but I want to try. Some of the leaves have little black dot scales does anyone know what this white worm that eats the tree is called I was so caught up in the tree having to be cut down I've forgotten she said you could try cut it back and treat it and then tar the wound but she thinks it will die I'm not sure how to post pictures on here and not sure who I could call for help any ideas ?

That looks like bad news. I think the heart wood is rotting. The dark staining would indicate that. Try poking it with a screwdriver, where the wound is. If it is soft, then rot would be confirmed. Given the proximity to the house, and that bad weather could bring the whole thing down, I would take the tree out and replant a new tree, perhaps a little further from the house if possible.
I've got an aborist coming to look at it next wednesday if it fell forward it still wouldn't hit the house I've got my fingers crossed he's said ...not to right it off yet and just to leave it I'll see what he says and if I replace it the guy at nursery said to wait till next winter that I would be able to get a bigger one and cheaper
thanks for your reply and advice ✌️️
What a shame, it's a lovely tree. I hope you get good news.
I think you need to take it down. If it ' blew down the street' as you say, then you were very lucky that it did not damage anything or anyone! Next time might be different and you could have an expensive time ahead, or worse, if it were due to negligence on your part.
It was a lovely tree but it is usually better to get rid and start again than keep a stunted remnant that always reminds you of how things used to be. I have the same decision to make on a huge pine that suffered severe damage in a heavy snowfall. It will never look the same again, but at least it is not in a place where it could cause great harm, so I have time to consider my options.

Thanks for your post ??me too fingers crossed he told me not to give up on it just yet and that its not dead yet and given that it recovered before after treatment when the skip took out a portion of the trunk that its a good sign
I'm. Sending love and light to my poor tree ❤️???
Thanks for your post and advice it's the first mini tornado that happened here and only lasted around a minute and yet caused so much damage I feel kinda bad because the only real bad damage was our tree our roof survived only two tiles moved but the concrete roof tiled houses weren't so lucky they lost parts of their roofs the neighbour behind me lost most it's roof on their home and shed and then came the rain Funny you say that its weird how it flew down the street without hitting or damaging anything or anyone my neighbour acrosss the street saw it happen my other neighbour said why didn't it hit my car it's insured for more lol it didn't even damage my lilac tree that was in its path or my other yellow robinia there was 4 cars parked to the side and nothing luckily no one got hurt !!! My neighbours all just say to leave it it will grow back the missing portion
the advice the Arbourist has given me was to do nothing and not take it down or paint over the exposed area and just wait till he gets here and to not give up on my tree yet I'm just trying to be hopeful and will wait for his advice fingers crossed the other part of the tree isn't in the way of causing any harm if another tornado came thru which I doubt and it fell forward it wouldn't hit the house and if it blew the same I have two huge trees ltgat form like a hedge not sure what they called and the fence that would block it . after speaking to the Arbourist he's given me some hope
everyone around me thinks I'm crazy "it's just a tree "
but I love my trees a lot of love went into that one especially after the guy damaged the trunk but I had an accident over 2 years ago and haven't been able to give it the attention it deserved

thank you for your post I did reply back but had no idea what I was doing or how to reply not tech savvy and suffer brain fog but yehh thanks ????
i hope the heart wood isn't rotting even though I have no idea where that is guess illl have to wait till next Wednesday
I'll post a close up of the part that was weak and broke off

It looks dangerous and could cause damage you may be liable for. I can understand why you feel upset but it has to go. You don't want the rot in that affecting anything else .
'You must have some bread with it me duck!'
Hello thanks for everyone's replies sorry I haven't had a chance to reply back i had a flare with my illness but aborist came this morning best $110 I ever spent educated me about tree biology how to cut where to cut when to cut and how much to cut even cut some of my other trees
my tree will live all I have to do is seasol it every month and water it and every 3 mths take a little bit off the heavier side of the tree to try balance it out and the tree should recover itself he said if i wanted to I could but something to give the tree some more support. looks like I have a moth borer apparently nothing I can do about that but keep the tree healthy to fight it off
made slot of sense about a month or so my husband and I noticed so many moths in our home and we haven't seen one for years and never had them inside. Haven't seen any moths lately bottom line I have to keep nursing my tree and I hate borers!!!! I look looking at my tree every morning if I see any holes I'll be injecting boiling water into it and have put an app on my phone that reminds me to feed and cut when needed was even having reiki for my tree ?
Thanks for all the advice much appreciated ✌️️
Thanks for your reply fortunately it's not rot it's just where 2 branches join I forget what's it's called have posted what aborist said ✌️️
