There's no such thing as a true black rose - there are some gorgeous very deep red ones - work your way through the deep red roses on these pages https://www.classicroses.co.uk/roses.html?p=1&pbr_rose_colour=15
There are some absolute beauties.
My late mother used to have a rose which she called her Black Rose, but it was a very deep red HT rose - so deep that the shadows in the folds of the petals looked black, but the rest of the petals were a deep crimson.

One of the darkest is 'Louis XIV', which is also known as 'Nigrette'...

Muddleup So you can't think of anything more contrived or manipulated than a black rose should roses only be of bright colours or ones that fit in with your opinion the reason I have come on to the forum is because that is my daughters favourite colour does this also mean that she is contrived and manipulated??
Marlorena.
Thanks I will have a look.
Wills ... no need to be cross ... a black rose would have to be contrived and manipulated because the gene for black does not exist in roses ... in fact I don't think it exists in any natural form, because true black is not a 'colour' ... it is the absence of reflected light.

Our daughter likes purple and black flowers. We have planted tulips in various shades of purple for her and also Queen of the Night tulips which are supposedly black but turned out to be purple/black - she was very pleased with them and we contrasted these with some creamy white tulips.
Yes not everyone has the same taste thank goodness - we welcome variety..
