Misshapen Magnolia Tree

I have a Magnolia Tree (Susan) which is about 10-12 foot high. On the right hand side is another tree which seems to have caused the Magnolia to not grow branches up in that area. The lower branches are there but the Magnolia then looks one sided, hope you can see what I mean in the photo. Would the Magnolia grow into the space if I remove the other tree or will it just stay lopsided? Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully answer :-)

Slowly, yes, it will probably make growth on the now lighter side. Careful pruning of the remainder of the tree will encourage it into producing new growth and some of that will be on the 'lesser' side.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I will take the other tree out and hope to see some improvement over time.
