Pruning
in Fruit & veg
I have a 10 year old tree. The branches have grown to tall for me to reach the fruit without the step ladder.
At present next year fruit is at the top of the branches..
I am wondering what would happen if i cut the branches down to say half the length.
Would i destroy the tree?Stop any more fruit from growing
Or just stop any fruit for next year only.
Can anyone help please.

I would do exactly that - shorten the main branches in the early spring, and then shorten the resulting side branches to five leaves.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I would prune hard over two or three years, then you only lose half or a third of the fruit.
