I thought that was one of your skinks Pat. Very similar type of creature. Fantastic to have such exotic looking animals around. Nice of him to pose for you too!  image

He didn't move. Fairy. Just froze there for several minutes. I don't know how long it had been there before I noticed it. I note that the dog food is still there, covered by ants.

    its colours were very beautiful.

I was thinking about it afterwards and I estimate it was about 1.5m long.

What a great spell you've had scroggin - could hardly have picked anything better if you'd tried! I'm wishing I'd booked this week off too - could have had some great hillwalks. I had some great outings last Feb/March, but it's been a bit hit and miss this year with the snow not being very obliging, and the weekends not getting the better days. Had some great days earlier in winter, so I can't really complain, but it's a bit frustrating looking out at the clear skies when I'm at work!

If you fancy that hill at Glencoe when you're here, and if I'm around, let me know and I'll take you up it if you like  image

I had a look online at the Goannas, Pat. Some of them get quite big don't they?  image

I didn't realise that one was so big either. Quite impressive to have him so nearby image

Lovely photos Scroggin. I've seen TV footage of the region, but its nice to see a personal series of shots.

Fairy, yes the Goannas are usually shy, but I believe the bites can be septic if you threaten them.

I wanted to check the rain gauge this morning to see how much we'd received overnight, but stopped short - a little wallaby just near where the goanna was yesterday. Since I didn't want to shoo her off, i put off until I'd had breakfast. She is between the Acacia and the septic tank - just below my veggie garden.

We've actually received 6 mm since yesterday morning, so we're very pleased with that.  As I wrote it in my rain record,  I totalled up February, and can't believe that January totalled 6.5mm and February 6.0mm. Amazing to receive 12.5mm in two months. Last year we got 166.5 in Jan and 198 in Feb. No wonder everything is so dry out there.

This morning there was rain over on the other side of the valley, but sunny here.
