Funny animal/livestock stories
Hi aym, we had a really friendly cock pheasant about 18 years ago when my son was young. We would put seed out for him on the doorstep and he would eat out of the scoop, my son called him Greg, he would be on the front doorstep every morning, along with one of our hens called Mable, who used to jump over the netting and meet Greg on the doorstep for breakfast, cute...

Way back in the 80's when I was a student nurse, the hospital where I lived and worked was in the countryside and had previously been an army barracks. All the wards were wooden huts connected by a very long central corridor with the wards/huts on either side. An extremely large pheasant called George would parade outside the entrance/exit to the long corridor and attack staff as they were going/ coming off duty. We were terrified of him and tried to avoid him as best we could or huddle together and then leg it as fast as we could. It was in the days when nurses had proper uniforms and wore capes with red linings and we think it was the red that made him attack us. In the end he was assassinated by someone who no doubt had a tasty meal of him too!??
Oh bright star, what a memory
maybe someone did have a lovely dinner thanks to George. I have no idea what they taste like, i'm a veggie
Pheasants are delicious if properly cooked - a bit similar to the leg meat on a turkey. I like them cooked with shallots, cider and some apples and quince and finished with some creme fraiche and parsley. Serve with roasted squash and/ or creamy mash and curly kale.
Dont have any funny stories about them tho

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I'm not in the countryside now Aym. Haven't been for 20+ years. We're right on the edge of a city now. But I grew up on a farm and lived in the countryside until my divorce in my 40s.
