lilac tree problem?

Hi all,
does anyone know what or if anything is wrong with my lilac tree?
i noticed a week or so ago its two different shades?
i hope the photo shows you ok ive had to zoom in abit 
the one half looks fine green leaves ,but the other seems all motl
ey i know we cut this back last year but it was fine and blossomed thank you for any help

Powdery mildew on mine as well towards the end of the season - probably as a result of a lack of rain in July/August here. Nothing to worry about.
Thank you Tetley and Mark56 thats great i was dreading someone replying its got to go ,as i love this tree had this for 16 years now hubby keeps trying to get rid but i wont let me ,so she stays phew
They are wonderful aren't they, I have them as high as the canopy of my trees here. I always look forward to the fragrance in early May, definitely one of my favourites.
