Weed Trees
Hi, I have recently moved and there are lots of small oaks trees growing in the flowers beds. I have tried digging some of the smaller ones out, but am struggling with a lot of them as the roots are already quite deep. I would be able to cut most of them but is there something i can paint on to stop them growing back? Any suggestions as to the best way to get rid of them would be much appreciated.

Hi tj. It all rather depends on how big the trees are. If they are only seedling trees, cutting them off at ground level will normally be enough. Any larger and you can paint something like SBK onto the cut surfaces.
I reckon to go just below ground level. It probably doesn't do the loppers much good to be cutting in soil but it gets rid of the trees.

Thank you. They're not that big at the mo, maybe the tallest are 1-2ft. so I guess I'll try cutting the. Then first and see if they grow back next year or not.
watch out for more tj, they're much easier if you get them as babies.

Thank you, yes I will. The more I'm looking, the more I'm finding ? its full steam ahead for operation tree weed!!
I don't have many oaklets but I'd be living in an ash/field maple/sycamore forest if I didn't keep on top of them
